Zach Elcano is emerging as one of the few true centers/post players in the Northern Virginia area.  Elcano can find his way around the hoop both offensively by converting on put backs and defensive by using his length to redirect  shot attempts.

Offensively he knows where is strength and advantage are, his ability to post deep has clearly made him difficult to defend against. His shot selection has begun to improve, where he catches and finishes has improved.

Defensively is where Elcano really making an impact, his ability to change shots attempts and start fast breaks is major plus for Elcano,

Athleticism: Good athletic, has made good improvement in this area. Remember Elcano is only a sophomore.

Shooting: Strength is interior scoring, development of a 15-foot jump shoot will greatly improve his collegiate opportunities.

Positioning: This is a big plus area for Elcano, he truly understands his position on the floor. His defense to offense transition is great, he establishes himself and hold the inside position with knowing that the middle/paint is where he is most effective.

Mobility: Good hands can catch direct passes - improving on catching non-traditional passes will elevate his game. Elcano has good footwork but can improve in both areas.

Defense: Elcano ability to alter shoot attempts and rebound on both sides of the floor has improved. Using his 6-8 200 lbs contributes to his success around the hoop - as he improves his mobility and perimeter defense his capability to play at the next level will increase.

Basketball IQ: Elcano is only a sophomore so as he plays against more season high school players this season and better athletes during the summer his IQ of the game will increase.

Fundamentals: Elcano has improved in this area, playing the post position requires toughness and a will to want the ball, he establishes post position really well and keeps the ball up high leveraging his 6-8 frame, at times he has a tendency to drop the ball below his waist but not that often.

Potential: Elcano can definitely play at the next level, the center position is the second position that is talked about but seldom developed. He is a good player that has the capability to become a really good versatile player during his high school career.  Projected Level: Low D-I
