Virginia
Elite continued their tour around Ashburn in their second
week of action. After a thrilling 73-71 victory last week
over Stone Bridge High School, Virginia Elite faced the Spartans of
Broad Run in their second game of the fall league. Each team
was feeling the rust of a early morning game, but both team
would begin to pickup their play as the game progressed.
Broad Runs
Senior Forward Kevin McGaughey kept Broad Run in the game
with aggressive offensive play while AAU teammate focused on
not letting him shoot Broad Run to victory.
Herndon
defeated Concorde district rival Centreville,
as the Herndon Hornets simply overwhelmed the Wildcats from
Centreville. A late run by the Wildcats in the second half
allowed them to cut into the lead, making the game
respectable, with the Hornets winning by a score of 53-42.
The third
game of the early morning had the Falcons of Briar Woods
playing Oakton High School. This game got off to a slow
start as the early morning was still holding the players
down. However, they battled back to eventually take the lead
at certain points. Nevertheless, the Cougars did in fact
prevail in the end, pulling away in the final minutes to
claim a 51-45 victory.
After a
heart stopping victory over the Broad Run Spartans, Virginia
Elite had no time to rest, as they immediately jumped into
their next game against the Osbourn Eagles. The Eagles were
missing some of their marquis players, and the Elite took
advantage, ultimately claiming a 56-43 victory.
After
losing a heart-breaker in week one to Virginia Elite, the
Stone Bridge Bulldogs looked to rebound against the Fairfax
Rebels, who just transferred into the Liberty District along
with the Bulldogs this year, making them district rivals for
the first time ever. Both teams gave it their all during the
course of the game, but in the end the Bulldogs grabbed
their first win of the season, beating the Rebels 41-38.
The final
game of the day proved to be a thriller, as it wasn't until
late in the game that Seton started to pull away from the
NOVA Suns to ultimately claim a 51-41 victory to close out
Saturday's varsity games.

Sunday,
September 27, 2009, The ladies took to the hardwood Sunday
and there were several outstanding performance and games
that caught the attention of VA Elite Hoops.com. Yorktown
High School and Paul VI was entangled in a good game which
the inside battle between Paul VI junior All-State performer
Meredith Mesasis and Yorktown senior 5"10
forward/center Lindiwe Rennert was great to see. Each
possessing a different style of play but both effective as
they were leading their respected teams. The ladies of
Yorktown fell in defeat to a very talented Paul VI team that
is talent heavy with the likes of Ashley Lambert (2011) who
is receiving attention from many major division I
programs.
In a side by side comparison on the next court
Stonewall Jackson was in a commanding lead over their
opponent which is setting up some interesting games for the
remainder of fall league. In the up coming weeks there
are several games that we will be looking forward to seeing.
Stonewall verse Paul VI, as Stonewall has a team of
outstanding players that provide offensive and defensive
balance against the inside play between Meredith Mesasis and
Joy Caracciso. This will be one to watch as well as the
battle at the point guard position between Stonewalls senior
Kyani White (VA Tech) and Paul VI outstanding junior guard
Ashley Lambert. Marlow Talley Assassins with South
Lakes tandem of junior guard Ashlie Sutton and freshmen Zoe
Beard is an attractive team for college recruiters to watch,
this young team will be tested against the heavy armed teams
in the league.
Osbourn
Park High School
senior point guard #10 Kelly Hamner (Holy Cross) and
Robinson High School senior point guard #15 Samantha
Partomen really displayed their skills playing against each
other this week. Along side Samantha was sophomore #22 Tyler
Hansen who was battling Osbourns'
#42 Rachel
Gordon and #0 Destiny Shearin (both highly recruited) throughout
the game. With 8:22 remaining in the final period of
play Osbourn
got a little shaken, maybe over looking the lady Rams but as
experienced ball players Osbourn
pulled out the victory 45-37.
