Our coaching staff has the necessary qualifications, years of actual division 1 and professional experience and understanding of players physical, mental and game skill development, college recruiting, practice planning and execution and game preparation and game execution to foster positive results in elite competition. Our team of coaches has many hours of sports education, grassroots competition at the Elite level that enables our staff to expect nothing more than the best effort from our players.

Thomas Gadson, Program Director, U17 Head Coach  


Director of Basketball Operations and Recruiting Virginia Elite in 2008, the organizationís mission then and still remains the same, to choose top basketball talent, boys and girls 8-17 years of age in the Washington,D.C. area (Northern Virginia). 


A native of Savannah, Georgia, Thomas Gadson has been involved with basketball for more than 30 years, from his youth days playing basketball and football in the YMCA and Police Athletic Leagues (PAL) youth leagues in Savannah through high school and college. After high school he attended Livingstone College in Salisbury, North Carolina which competes in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA). 


After his freshmen year transferred and graduated from Morris College in Sumter, South Carolina. Mr. Gadson holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and a Masters in Computer Information Systems as well as several technical and professional management certifications As the director of Virginia Elite He is responsible for all aspects for program development.  


U17: Rodney Carmichael, Assistant Head Coach 


Coach Rodney  has extensive coaching experience from his tenure as Head Coach of the Varsity Boys Summer League and Head Coach of a German Basketball team in Germany ("TG Sandhausen"). Coach Carmichael serves as Assistant Coach at Division III Marymount University, Arlington, Virginia where he provides support on recruiting and player development.  Before Marymount Coach Carmichael was the Assistant Coach of the Varsity Boys Team at Middleburg Academy (Private School), Middleburg, Virginia.


As the Assistant Head Coach for Virginia 17 and Under Coach Carmichael provides elite level experience for player development and provides the majority of game preparation and management for the team. Leveraging his valuable experiences has allowed the team over the past years to development many players into division 1 prospects with several players receiving division 1 scholarship opportunities. His years of collegiate and professional basketball is a valuable asset to providing players the right information to compete at the Elite level of grassroots basketball. 


Coach Carmichael played professionally overseas with the Winnipeg Cyclones, Germany Oberelshingen and holds a club record for three pointers within a single season (68pts). Before playing professionally Coach Carmichael led Norfolk State to 82-13 from 1994-97, Selected to Black College All-American team (1997), All-CIAA (1996-97) and completed his collegiate career scoring over 1,000 points and 500 rebounds.


U15: Anthony Pringle, Head Coach 

Graduate of Wayland Baptist University in Planview Texas, with a Associates degree in Religious Studies and Associates in Christian Education. He also has earned a Associates of Applied Sciences Degree in Criminal Justice from Northern Virginia Community College (Woodbridge, VA) and an Bachelors of Science in  Theology from George Mason University.

Coach Pringle has 8 years of experience coaching basketball at the high school level and AAU level. He has coached at Admiral Arthur W. Radford High School, High school in Honolulu County, Hawaii. He currently serves as Varsity Assistant and Head JV Coach at St John Paul Catholic High School, Dumfries, Va. He is responsible for the development of players, scouting, off season workouts, recruiting and coaching JV team. Recently coaching the class of 2015 Virginia Elite U17 to a 32-10 record, and 4 players moved on to play next level basketball at Division 1,2,3 level. 

In addition to his duties as a basketball coach, Coach Pringle also serves as the Director of Player Personnel for the ESBC High School All Star event. Coach Pringle a proud veteran of 8 years of US Army Service, a war veteran applying those experiences to basketball and teaching life lessons. He also serves as a license ordained Minister, playing a vital role in the development of people's faith.    

U16: Maurice Hubbard, Head Coach 

Coach Hubbard was born in Cleveland, Ohio but was raised in Northern Virginia. Coach Hubbard attended Westfield High School where he lettered all 4 years. During his time at Westfield he led the Bulldogs to two Concorde District titles.  His accomplishment included first team all-district and all-region from his sophomore to his senior year. Upon graduation Coach Hubbard departed Westfield as their all-time leader in points, rebounds, and blocks. During the summer of 2005 and 2006 Hubbard attended the prestigious Reebokís ABCD for the nationís top 150 high school prospects.

While at Westfield High School, Coach Hubbard received many Division I scholarship offers. He decided to commit to Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. He played two years at Ball State University before transferring to University of South Carolina-Aiken (USC-A) to finish is Collegiate Career. At Ball State, he helped lead the Cardinals to two (2) MAC West Championships. While at USC-A Coach Hubbard helped the Pacers win two regular season championships, conference tournament championship, two Division II NCAA appearances and an Elite 8 appearance.

Coach Hubbard graduated with a Bachelorís Degree in Communication with a minor in Marketing. He is the son of former National Basketball Association (NBA) player and current Golden State Warriors Assistant Coach Phil Hubbard. Coach Hubbard has been around the game of basketball his entire life and will pass on his knowledge of the game to the Virginia Elite players.  


U16: James Wilkin, Assistant Coach

Coach James Wilkins has coached basketball for the last 11 years. The first 5 years on the AAU Grassroots level. The last 6 years as an high school assistant with Edison High school (Alexandria, VA) and  current Assistant Coach with John Paul the Great (Woodbridge, VA) boys varsity team.  Developing kids to become young men through academics, character and sports is his focus.

A native of Alexandria Virginia, he attended TC Williams (Remember the Titans) and Bishop O'Connell high for the final 3 years. While at O'Connell HS, he was a 3 year starter on the Varsity level in both Football and Basketball in a very talented and competitive WCAC athletic conference. After finishing high school, he went on to play football at James Madison University (JMU) as a scholarship athlete. Graduating from JMU in 2001 with a Business Degree.

Aside from coaching basketball, Coach is a full time Real Estate agent with Keller Williams Realty. He has 14 years in the Real Estate field with a focus on consulting and educating individuals who desire to be home owners or an investors.

U16: Michael Wynott, Assistant Coach 

Joining the High School Elite Coaching Staff will be Michael Wynott. The Massachusetts native and Wake Forest alum will bring his years of coaching competitive basketball and player development to Virginia Elite. Currently, Coach Wynott is a Assistant Varsity Coach at Westfield High School in Chantilly, VA.

U17 Ham: Stanley Ham, Head Coach  

Coach Ham is a native of Hampton, Virginia Coach Ham supports the federal government as a program manager in the area of training and workforce engagement. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from Christopher Newport University where he played.  Coach Ham has been involved in basketball as a player and coach for 46 years.  Having played in college he has a keen understanding of the skill and work required to attain that level.  Coach Ham enjoys strong relationships with players, parents and coaches of each one of his previous teams.

  His approach to coaching is built on a foundation that focuses on principles of excellence, partnership and hard work geared to continuous improvement.  His relationship based style contributes to his philosophy that the best basketball organizations operate as a partnership between the coaching staff, parents and players. He continuously works on building working relations that contribute to a high performing team and environment where players learn the fundamentals of the game in a positive and supportive manner. He expects and coaches to maximum performance from each player while reminding them to take time to enjoy the experience.

U17 Ham: Troy Lowe, Assistant Coach  

Native of Ossining, New York, coach Lowe spent 14 years in the United States Army, currently working for the federal government as an operations specialist. Coach Lowe has been involved in basketball as a player and coach for 23 years at the High School, Amateur Athletic Union, and All Army levels.

Coach Lowe evaluated high school basketball players within the Mid-Atlantic Region for placement with various Under Armour (UA) sponsored basketball programs. Also have trained, mentored, developed and guided players on an individual basis at the high school varsity level.  A veteran of the United States Army, While in the Army he was appointed as head coach, leading the Camp Stanley (Uijongbo) Dragons Menís Team in the Republic of South Korea.

U13: Mike Askew, Head Coach

Coach Michael R. Askew is an alumnus of Virginia State University with a Bachelor Degree in Sports Management. Coach Askew played 4 years of collegiate basketball as a shooting guard standing 6í4 receiving numerous awards beginning with All Rookie to ending his career receiving All Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA).

After graduating Coach Askew played professional basketball in Yucatan Mexico. Coach Askew is also the President of ďA-Team Basketball ProgramĒ based in Woodbridge, VA.    

Jason Evans II, Elite Team Strength and Conditioning Coach Coach Jason Evans II, former Nike Basketball Trainer Specialist with Gannon Baker , Washington Sports Club and currently provide training for college, high school and aspiring basketball players. Coach Evans played professionally in Europe and captured the European Championship. A native of Northern Virginia Coach Evans played at Hayfield High School where he was selected All-State, Region and District.



James Fleet, 14-Fleet and Under, Head Coach James Fleet, DMVElite West Director joins Virginia Elite Coaching staff as Head Coach of the Virginia Elite 14U team. Coach Fleet has been part of DMVElite for several years primarily focused on extending DMVElite brand of high school camps, clinics and showcase events in the western parts of Maryland and Virginia such as the DMVElite Freshman Showcase, DMVElite West H.S. Showcase and other events.  


Because of his extensive visibility throughout the Washington, D.C. market and his keen evaluation of talent Virginia Elite is very fortunate to have his experience as part of our continued development of the program and coaching staff. 

Jay Metzler, 14-Metzler and Under, Head Coach Coach Metzler is in his second year serving as the 14-Metzler and Under Head Coach. Coach Metzler has been involved with coaching and mentoring youth through athletics for several years throughout the Fairfax community. Coach Metzler also be involved with player development for the 14U teams along with Coach Mike Askew (13's) and  James Fleet (14-Fleet) they will continue to expand on the foundation of the program.
