Virginia Elite coaching staff has the necessary qualifications, years of actual division 1 and professional experience. Understanding of players physical, mental and game skill development are keys to any players development. Experienced practice planning and execution, game preparation and game execution to foster positive results in elite competition. 

Our coaching staff includes men that have achieved recognition for their work in the community, who are providing academic and social support through mentoring and providing guidance for success.

Middle School and Junior Elite coaches are involved with the development of our high school players to transition those experience to our younger players. 

Our team of coaches have spent many hours and continuously support sports education, grassroots competition at the Elite level that has resulted in many players moving on to play college basketball, with all these experiences it enables our staff to expect nothing more than the best effort from our players.

Thomas Gadson

Founder and Director of Basketball Operations


Thomas Gadson (Morris College) Owner/Director of Basketball Operations Coach Gadson established Virginia Elite in 2008 with the organizations mission to be the premier grassroots basketball program based in Northern Virginia and recognized as one of the top programs within the Washington,D.C. area, Maryland and Virginia (DMV).


Coach Gadson is a member of the Dulles-Leesburg (VA) Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. (Pictured with 2014 Alumni AJ Carr, Shepard University)


A native of Savannah, Georgia, Thomas Gadson has been involved with basketball for more than 30 years, from his youth days playing basketball and football in the YMCA and Police Athletic Leagues (PAL) youth leagues in Savannah through high school and college. After high school he attended Livingstone College in Salisbury, North Carolina which competes in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA). 


After his freshmen year transferred and graduated from Morris College in Sumter, South Carolina. Mr. Gadson holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and a Masters in Computer Information Systems as well as several technical and professional management certifications As the director of Virginia Elite He is responsible for all aspects for program development.


Alan Starks  

High School Elite Division Coach

Coach Starks is an integral part of the High School Elite coaching staff which will leverage his years of coaching experience and years of developing players. Coach Starks join the staff in 2016 and continues to provide quality coaching and mentorship to all player associated with Virginia Elite.



Daren A. Rowe 

Elite High School Coach, Talent Evaluator and Player Development Coach


Coach Rowe is an integral part of the High School Elite coaching staff which will leverage his years of collegiate coaching experience and years as a professional basketball player.  


Former Head Coach at Montclair State University (MSU) and former star player at St. Peter’s College under Coach Ted Fiore, Rowe played from 1983 through 1987 with the Peacocks. An All-MAAC First-Team selection and All-Metro Region second-team member during his senior year, Rowe was also selected to the All-MAAC Tournament Team and was voted as the New Jersey College Player of the Year in 1987. 


A durable player in his four years, Coach Rowe played every game in his first three seasons at St. Peter’s and finished his career with 957 points, 600 rebounds, 120 steals and 97 career blocks. A free agent selection of the NBA’s Utah Jazz, Rowe also played extensively as a professional player in Europe. Inducted into the New Rochelle Sports Hall of Fame in 2011. 


Walter Hamilton, Jr.

Elite High School Coach, Talent Evaluator and Player Development Coach

Coach Hamilton is an integral part of the High School Elite coaching staff which will leverage his years of collegiate coaching experience and years of player development. Coach Hamilton comes from a basketball family which his younger Brother Austin Hamilton, played at Elon University from 2011-2014.

Coach Hamilton started his undergrad studies at Grambling State and completed his undergraduate studies at North Carolina A&T State University.

Prior to joining Virginia Elite, Coach Walter Hamilton was a member of the Greensboro College, Greensboro, North Carolina staff from 2012-13. A native of Herndon, VA, Hamilton previously served as an Associate Head Coach at Ben L. Smith High School. During his four years at Ben L. Smith, Hamilton’s duties included skill development – particularly with the guards, scouting and game planning, and player development.  He helped lead his teams to three consecutive state play-off appearances as well as the “Little 4” Pizza Hut Invitational championship in 2010.

Rodney Carmichael

High School Elite Division Coach

Rodney Carmichael (Norfolk State University) enters his third season with Virginia Elite High School Elite program coach. Under Coach Carmichael guidance, Grant Golden (University of Richmond), Ronald Alston (NJIT), James Butler (1st Team All Met/US Naval Academy), and others who are playing Division 2 and 3 collegiate basketball.

The former Marymount, assistant coach with the men’s basketball program for the 2014-15 season. He brings extensive coaching experience to the Saints bench including a stint as head coach of TG Sandhausen – a German basketball team overseas.

As a player, Carmichael played professionally on the international stage, spending time with the Winnepeg Cyclones and Germany Oberelshingen where he holds a club record for three pointers n a single season with 68.

Before his professional tenure, Carmichael helped Norfolk State to an 82-13 record from 1994-97. During his time with the Spartans, Carmichael was named to the Black Conference All-American team, All-Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) and completed his collegiate career scoring over 1,000 points and recording 500 rebounds.

Coach Carmichael in recognized for with accomplishments as his mural is represented in the in the Joseph Echols Hall.

Rashad Gadson,  Assistant Coach  

Virginia Elite alumni has been part of the program since 2008. While with Virginia Elite Coach Gadson led the team to several championships during his tenure in the program. Additionally, he played at Westfield High School where he played under Coach Doug Ewell.


Continued playing at St. John's Northwestern Military Academy, Delafield, Wisconsin where he played under Coach Brian Richert and current Georgia Tech Assistant Coach, Tyler Benson.


Herb Williams-Baffoe, High School Elite Division Coac

Coach Herb Williams-Baffoe has an extensive coaching and youth development background within Northern Virginia.  Supporting the mission of youth development,  area within the Northern Virginia community coach Baffoe has become a mentor to many young men and women with the community.


Herb Williams-Baffoe, Sports Director at the YMCA of Metropolitan Washington, recently was the recipient of the Vade Bolton – Ann Rodriguez Legacy Award for his counseling and mentoring of youth.


Josh Green, High School Elite Division Coach  

Coach Josh Green graduated from Flint Hill 2010...went to junior college for football as a result his football career ended sooner than anticipated. Coach Green played every level flint hill had to offers for basketball 7th grade-12th grade. Now an assistant varsity basketball coach for 5 years who also employed at lower school for basketball clinics (ages 4-12).

As the varsity assistant, Coach Green supports Coach Rico Reed with player development and manages off season workouts and next season preparation.

Andre Golanski  


Andre Golanski, support Virginia Elite as the Middle School Director.  The Youth and Middle School Elite programs will align with the High School Elite programs with the vision to transitions those players into the High School Elite program
